Travel chaos was caused this morning at Liverpool Airport as a private jet carrying just one passenger came off the runway this morning. Photos shared by Breaking Aviation News show that the aircraft was attempting to exit the runway when it got stuck in the grass.
Airport closed
As a result of this morning’s incident, the airport has remained closed throughout the morning with no commercial arrivals or departures having taken place. Due to the resting position of the aircraft, it would not be safe to operate flights on the runway. Should another aircraft suffer the same fate, for example, the situation would get much worse.
The Airport is currently closed, please contact your airline for any further information on your flight.
The incident was caused by a private jet landing on the runway at around 06:00 this morning. A spokesperson for Liverpool Airport told Simple Flying that there was just one passenger onboard the aircraft, accompanied by three members of crew. Thankfully, nobody was injured during the incident.
The airport’s runway has remained closed all morning, and this closure is expected to continue into the early afternoon. An airport spokesperson told Simple Flying:
“There were no injuries and the runway is expected to be closed until this afternoon while the Airport deals with the incident… We apologise for any inconvenience caused and can assure customers we are doing all we can to resume services as quickly as possible.”
Hundreds of passengers would have had their travel plans disrupted so far today. According to data from FlightRadar24.com, 12 commercial flights should have already departed the airport today. While some are delayed, around half of these have been cancelled.
Of this morning’s arrivals at the airport, three easyJet flights have been cancelled, meanwhile, other flights have been diverted to the nearby Manchester Airport. This includes Eurowings’ Salzburg service, Flybe’s Isle of Man service, Ryanair’s Dublin service, and Blue Air’s Bacau service.
