DONALD TRUMP MEET SYRIAN PRESIDENT AFTER LIFTING SANCTION DURING MIDDLE EAST VISIT

Donald Trump has met with the Syrian president, the first meeting between the nations’ leaders in 25 years following a surprise announcement that the U.S. would lift all sanctions on Syria.

America had previously offered a $10 million reward for information about Ahmad al-Sharaa, then known as Abu Mohammed al-Golani, who had been a member of al-Qaida. He still faces a warrant over terrorism charges in Iraq, but has since cut ties with the terrorist group.

The president said ending sanctions on Syria would give the country a “chance for greatness”. In their meeting, Trump urged al-Sharaa to normalize relations with Israel, while the Syrian leader invited American companies to invest in Syrian oil and gas.

The international trip has come even as a backlash back home over Qatar’s proposed gift of a $400m luxury plane threatened to overshadow his “historic” tour of the Middle East.
